When someone uses cocaine while pregnant, the risk of the baby being prematurely born is doubled. Also, if the mother uses cocaine during pregnancy, a condition known as placental abruption could occur, and this may lead to death for the mother and the baby.

The mother can have cardiac problems, and can suffer with weight gain, which may cause problems with the developing fetus.
